BRIDGES In the News

'We absolutely love it'

Excerpt from article that originally appeared in the October 26, 2004 edition of the Commercial Appeal

The rain stopped and the stars came out Saturday night just in time to "Raise the Roof" at the new headquarters for Bridges Inc. A monthlong celebration of the grand opening culminated with a black-tie dinner and silent auction. More than 400 people were expected to attend.

Antoinette Cheney , special events coordinator for the organization, said of the new facility at North Fifth and Auction, "We love it, we absolutely love it."

Becky Wilson , a co-chair of the event, admired the new building, which was designed by local architect Coleman Coker . "It is wonderful and truly unique."

Co-chair Shirley Hilliard agreed, but she also noted that the most important aspect of the evening was supporting the cause of Bridges Inc., which promotes the empowerment of adults and youth and celebrates diversity. "Everybody worked so hard together (to organize the event)," she added.

Also there were Lisa Adams , Rhonda Richmond , Spence Wilson , Herb Hilliard , Cornell and Nita Campbell , Viola Cole , Mike and Maureen Whittke , Tyrone and Nelda Burroughs , Barbara Beloch and Rosalyn Willis .
