Students studying peace moved to make a difference
A group of student's from this year's
BRIDGES PeaceJam Summer Leadership Institute made a presentation at the City Council meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 18, that caught the attention of a reporter from WMC TV 5. The next night, Wed. Aug. 19, a segment aired on the 5 p.m. newscast featuring two of the students talking about what they learned.
The students were compelled to talk to the council after doing a project involving documenting inequity among schools in the Memphis City Schools system. The segment features lots of comments from the kids and examples of the photographs from their project. Check it out below.
Kudos to the students and PeaceJam coordinator Dana Wilson and all the
organizations who partnered to make the institute happen: the
National Civil Rights Museum, the
Mid-South Peace and Justice Center and
Memphis City Schools.
