Future Builders

Community Action, Diversity Appreciation, Environmental Education and Leadership

History of Future Builders

Future Builders was inspired by the Bridge Builders program and developed 12 years ago for the purpose of engaging middle school youth of Bridge Builders’ families. Today, the program serves roughly 300 middle school students each year from more than 50 public, private, parochial, county and home schools across the Greater Memphis area.

The mission of Future Builders is to provide experiential, hands-on learning for a diverse group of middle-school students to become leaders in building a better future for themselves and their community. Participants build the skills necessary to develop knowledge and leadership skills for community change, work effectively in a diverse team and improve their self - confidence – all while concentrating on four focus areas - community action, diversity appreciation, environmental education, & leadership.

How to participate in Future Builders

In order to become a member of Future Builders, you must currently be in 6th, 7th, or 8th grade. Additionally, members are asked to be active participants during the year–round program season – with activities beginning in the summer and ending a month before the school year ends.

There are also four main characteristics that are extremely important for any of our participants to possess.

Those four are:

1.       Leadership Potential

2.       Parental Support

3.       Open – Mindedness

4.       Willingness to make new friends

If you possess these four qualities then Future Builders would be a great program for you to get involved in. Additionally, it is a good idea to become familiar with your school's Future Builders sponsor. That sponsor is the liaison between the Future Builders staff and your school and will inform you of your specific school's Future Builders recruitment date. It is highly suggested that you attend your school's recruitment session to receive pertinent information regarding membership.

Recruitment for all interested students will resume in Spring 2012.
