The Future Builders Experience
So what exactly do Future Builders do? Plenty! Depending on the time of year and the length of camp, Future Builders are exposed to:
- High and low ropes course challenges
- Indoor rock climbing at the BRIDGES Center
- Environmental sustainability education
- Hands-on environmental projects
- Outdoor adventure activities
- Service-learning community projects
- Journaling and mentorship by positive adult staff and volunteers
BRIDGES works closely with partner Great Outdoors University, a program of the Tennessee Wildlife Federation, to provide extensive outdoor education to Future Builders. Examples of outdoor adventure opportunities that expose youth to local and regional natural resources are:
- Swimming and boating at Sardis Lake
- Camping at the Pinecrest Retreat Center
- Fishing at local ponds and lakes
- Stream strolling and aquatic study at the Wolf River
- Orienteering at Meeman-Shelby State Park
- Outdoor Ropes Course at Pinecrest Conference Center
